Magellan Autologous Concentration System

The Magellan is designed to be used in the clinical laboratory or intra-operatively at the point of care for the safe and rapid preparation of platelet poor plasma and platelet concentrate (platelet rich plasma) from a small sample of a mixture of blood and bone marrow. The plasma and concentrated platelets produced can be used for diagnostic tests. Additionally, the platelet rich plasma can be mixed with autograft and/or allograft bone prior to application to an orthopedic site. The platelet rich plasma can be mixed prior to application to an orthopedic site as deemed necessary by the clinical use requirements.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)- Processed from Whole Blood

  • Contains nutrient rich plasma, concentrated levels of monocytes, platelets (and their respective growth factors,) and signaling proteins.

  • Provides high concentrations of platelets and monocytes which release key growth factors and signaling proteins the body uses to drive the healing process.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)- Processed from Bone Marrow (cBMA)

  • Contains all properties found in PRP from blood with the addition of concentrated levels of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), and a specific inflammation/pain inhibitor (iRAP)

  • Provides the concentrated signals (PRP), as well as concentrated levels of the additional regenerative cells (MSCs & HSCs) the body uses to carry out the healing process

Platelet-Poor Plasma (PPP) – Available with PRP from Blood and/or Bone Marrow Aspirate

  • Nutrient-rich fluid with native levels of plasma proteins, such as fibrinogen, and slight concentrations of platelets which have been shown to provide hemostasis

  • Fibrinogen forms fibrin during the clotting process which in turn forms a fibrous mesh for hemostasis
